The Vocal and General Music Program of Instruction provides all students with appropriate resources and experiences to develop positive attitudes and sensitivities toward music. Through the implementation of sequential musical skills and concepts students develop an understanding of the intrinsic value of music and its relationship to diverse cultures, traditions, values and beliefs. The teacher through careful selection of repertoire, attention to instructional guidelines and by encouraging expressive singing will help children gain an understanding and appreciation for aesthetic choral singing. Instructional objectives are designed to assist students in achieving choral skills and musicianship. Students participating in chorus will learn to sing with a freely produced tone characteristic of their age, sing with controlled breathing, sing with correct diction, sing in tune with other voices and instruments, sing in balance with other voices and instruments and respond appropriately to choral direction.
