What is Happening in Our Speech Language Program?

Our Speech and Language Program (SLP) Team provides core words, instructional methods, and collaboration with staff to develop the communication skills which are critical for our students to navigate daily life.

Yearly Core Words

Ways to Use the Core Words of the Month

Morning arrival: asking/modeling yes/no questions/responses

Reading: asking/modeling yes/no questions/responses

Math: asking/modeling yes/no questions/responses 

Functional life skills: I / I want when requesting items to use to complete tasks in the building/classroom 

Lunch: I / I want when requesting food items

Dismissal: yes/no questions about personal school items (backpack, lunch, coat, etc.), use I / I want when requesting items to bring home

Things to Remember

  • Model, Model, Model
  • Yes PCS is always presented on the student’s right side
  • When teaching yes/no responses, use concrete items
