School Info

Our school hours are 7:30 AM - 1:40 PM. Students should not arrive at school before 7:00 AM. Upon arrival, all students (bus riders, walkers & car riders) will go directly to the cafeteria. All students will have breakfast in their classrooms at 7:15 AM. Students arriving after 7:30 AM are tardy. Tardy students should report to the office for sign-in. Attendance, Tardies & Absences

Your child should be in school on time and in class every day.  Students arriving to school after 7:30 AM will be considered tardy. All tardy students must report to the office to obtain a late slip for admission into the classroom. Tardy students will not receive breakfast. If the student does not have a late slip they will not be admitted into the classroom.

If a student is absent from school, he or she must have a written excuse (date & reason) for the absence. It is the parents responsibility to make sure this takes place.  If no excuse is obtained, the absence will be marked unexcused. Lawful absences include:

  • Death in the immediate family
  • Illness of the student
  • Court summons
  • Religious holiday
  • Violent storms
  • Disciplinary suspension
  • State of Emergency or work related activity which is accepted by the authorities

Leaving School Early

Parents requesting early dismissal must provide a note on the morning of the appointment. Parents should report to the office and sign out students. The front office will notify the classroom teacher. Under NO circumstances will students be released without notification from the office. Parents will not be allowed to pick up students from the classroom unless permission has been granted from an administrator.

Delayed Openings & Early Dismissals

A late opening will be announced through local radio and television stations.   Our school is located in Prince Georges County.  You may also check the school district's status at the PGCPS web site. 

1 hour delay: report to school before 8:30 AM

Curriculum

Prince George's County Schools places emphasis on daily reading, mathematics, science, and social studies.  Students also receive instruction in music, instrumental music, physical education, computer technology, and library media.  Special Education and ESOL departments provide academic support for specific groups of students. Each grade level follows the Maryland Common Core Curriculum Frameworks.

Student Information System

Prince George's County Public Schools uses a student information system, Synergy, to manage student data, including grades, attendance records, and schedules. The ParentVUE Family allows authorized caretakers to log into ParentVUE from any computer with an Internet connection and view the child's student information, including current attendance records and assignment scores. Title 1

Ridgecrest Elementary is identified as a Title 1 school. Title I is a federally funded program reauthorized by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001(NCLB). The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality education and meet challenging state academic standards. Title 1 schools receive supplementary funding to improve the teaching and learning of children  Funds are to be used only for programs that supplement, and do not supplant, the services that would be provided in the absence of these funds.
