Great Day Hillcrest Heights Elementary Families!
I would like to formally welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year at Hillcrest Heights Elementary! My school team and I have been working diligently to prepare for the school year. We are excited to open our doors to you and your scholar on August 28, 2023. I hope that you and your family were able to enjoy some much needed rest and family time during the summer break. As the summer is coming to a close, I am looking forward to another great school year. HHES will continue its commitment to working alongside you to help our students excel socially and academically. We have made great academic strides this past year at Hillcrest Heights Elementary and I greatly appreciate your support and involvement.
As we embark on a new school year, noticeable changes will be evident at Hillcrest Heights Elementary! We have added additional staff members. These roles include Classroom Teachers, a Special Education teacher, a School Testing Coordinator, and Paraprofessionals. All of these individuals bring expertise and knowledge in their roles to better serve the scholars at HHES. You will soon meet our new staff members at the upcoming Student Orientation and Back to School Night. The dates and times are forthcoming. Our partnership with the Judy Hoyer Early Childhood Center will continue this school year. Parent resources and workshops will be provided by the Judy Hoyer Early Childhood Center. We are exceptionally excited to have also been identified as a Community School! As a PGCPS Community School, we will partner with local organizations to provide wrap-around services to our scholars and their families. Additionally, we will have a Community School Liaison that will serve the families of HHES.
During the 2022-2023 school year, our focus continued to be on increasing student achievement in Reading and Mathematics. We implemented the PGCPS Online Platforms initiative; we provided in-person and virtual learning opportunities, after school tutoring services for our scholars; and we addressed specific academic needs by providing small group interventions. We will continue to provide these services, and much more, for our scholars during the 2023-2024 school year.
The staff and I are committed to the academic growth of every student at HHES. We firmly believe that our scholars are the best of PGCPS! I encourage you to get involved in all facets of our school programs. Please consider joining the Parent-Teacher Organization; volunteer in our community garden; become a classroom parent volunteer; and serve as a field trip chaperone by getting fingerprinted. I look forward to continuing our partnership this school year! I hope to see you all on or before August 28, 2023. Hawks Fly High!
Yours In Service,
David A. Brown Sr.
School Principal
