Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to the 2024 -2025 school year! This will proudly be my 15th year as a part of the Mattaponi Elementary School community. This year will also be my 30th year as an educator and administrator serving the communities of Prince George’s County. I am very excited to get the school year started because I feel that we are in a position to help our students reach their full potential.
Obviously, there are a number of factors that make this school year different from any other. Not only do we have new schedule times, 7:30am - 1:40pm, but in addition, we begin the school year with a new student information system. We no longer use SchoolMAX or the Family/Parent Portal, and now have transitioned to Synergy, a platform already in use by some of our neighboring school districts. Synergy and its parent platform, ParentVUE, are now in full implementation. In ParentVUE, you can see your child’s schedule, grades, transportation information, attendance, and more. I strongly encourage you to activate or create your ParentVUE account today.
This year our staff has added a number of new faces and new positions. We welcome Mrs. Chris Ford as our new Special Education Chairperson, Ms. Rita Harkins, 1st Grade, Ms. Adrienne Wallace, 2nd/3rd Grade TAG, and Ms. Shirlita Scott, Paraprofessional Educator. Mr. Petrus Brand will now serve as our Math Resource Teacher and we
will additionally add a new position of Student Advocate to help support our students and families. Ms. Tiara McKisset and Ms. Angela Scott have both moved on to other opportunities, while Ms. Marcia Cross-Briscoe is at this time enjoying her retirement with her grandchildren.
In closing, we look forward to receiving our students on Monday, August 26th @ 7:30am. Just prior to that we will host an orientation for Kindergarten and new students to Mattaponi on Friday, August 23rd from 8:00am - 10:00am. Additionally, mark your calendars for Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 11th @ 6:30pm.
Sincerely,
Mr. Stephen I. Green, Jr.
Principal
