Reading English Language Arts deals with the development of literacy. At Largo High School the Reading English Language Arts program is committed to enabling all students to become life-long readers, writers, listeners, and speakers. All of these processes are recursive in nature, which necessitates an understanding that growth and development are never-ending. This is accomplished through systematic instruction that focuses on the development of attitudes, strategies, and processes that empower students to become active listeners, proficient speakers, and independent readers, writers, and thinkers. Students of Prince George's County Public Schools will be able to demonstrate proficiency on assessments that measure program outcomes.
Largo High School's Reading and Language Arts Department envisions a program that promotes equal opportunities to students to hone their maximum potential and provide access to rigorous instruction that develops their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills to become college, career ready and globally competitive students in the 21st Century as measured by their ability to demonstrate proficiency on assessments which measure program outcomes.
