A simple goal of "Visual Art in Every school," has resulted in over 290 Visual Arts teachers at every level, PK-12.
The Visual Art department is staffed with Elizabeth (Lisa) Stuart Whitehead, Visual Arts Instructional Supervisor, Ms. Jemil Miller, Resource Teacher, and Ms. Sheena Fouch, Visual Art Administrative Assistant. The Visual Art program offers opportunities for students to explore all aspects of visual art, develop visual literacy skills and concepts, and develop an appreciation for Visual Art. Curriculum and coursework encourages a well-rounded understanding of the skills involved in creating works of art in multiple media, including but not limited to, drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, computer graphics, printmaking, collage, mixed media, and learning about art history. In addition to supporting teachers in the delivery of curriculum, the department sponsors the Three-Dimensional Exhibit, the North, Central, and South Countywide Art Exhibits, as well as several statewide art exhibits. Furthermore, central office staff can conduct informal and formal observations, provide needs-based professional development (including arts integration lessons and activities), and provide visual art support for lesson planning and demonstration lessons.
