Hello Parents and Guardians,
Can you believe that we are entering another school year? Wow, this summer has just about ended. It is simply amazing how fast precious time has gone by! As you begin to think about the new school year, I am requesting you to please place quality time with your child/children at the forefront of everything that you do. Your contributions, whether assisting with nightly reading or simply helping with homework, will be greatly appreciated.
First, I wish to remind you that we will continue to work hard to increase students’ test scores by moving more students from basic to proficient and advance on assessments in the areas of reading, math, and science. In order to do so, we will need your unwavering support. I encourage you to continue to read with your child at least 20 minutes nightly. Reading with your child builds fluency, develops vocabulary acquisition, and increases comprehension. It is also important for you to make sure that your child arrives at school on time daily. Students arriving to school on time will be recognized quarterly. Students scoring proficient or advanced on countywide and state assessments will be invited to participate in a fun-filled activity. Please encourage your child to do his/her best on a daily basis.
Secondly, In regards to school safety, please tell your child/children to adhere to the following reminders: Never walk through the wooded path when coming to school or returning home. Remind them not to bully or intimidate other students at anytime, even while standing at the bus stop or riding the bus. In addition, ask your child to please stay alert, be mindful of others, and demonstrate courteous behaviors throughout the school day. Consequences will be imposed if the bullying and intimidation policy is violated. We will continue to report all bullying and intimidation to the Office of Student Affairs and Maryland State Department of Education.
Thirdly, in order to maintain safety in school, we are requesting all visitors to report to the office, sign in, and secure a visitor’s badge prior to visiting the classrooms. The Board of Education requires all volunteers and chaperones to get a background check prior to volunteering in any capacity in the school. Please assist us in supporting school safety.
In closing, we are fortunate to have parents that support us as we educate students. If you have questions or concerns in reference to your child’s educational program, please do not hesitate to contact me at the number above. I will be more than willing to assist you. In the following month, please be on the lookout for my Open Door Policy hours that will provide you with the opportunity to drop in without an appointment to discuss you child.
