**Please note that all of the above selections must be uniform material.
School uniforms can also be found at several retailers, Walmart, Target, Burlington Coat Factory and Kohl’s. Just be sure and ask for their school uniform selection to prevent purchase of non-uniform garments that may be the correct color but may not meet Montpelier’s uniform code. When purchasing uniforms at the beginning of the year, please consider buying a cardigan sweater for your child as you may have trouble finding them later on in the year. Lastly, do not forget to label all garments clearly so that if they become lost we can return them to your child.
Dress for Uniform Success
Since we are a mandatory uniform school, all students are expected to be in full uniform everyday. The following information will help you to ensure that your child’s uniform is aligned with school policy. These are non-negotiable requirements of our uniform code.
SHIRTS and SWEATERS
- There are no pockets permitted on polo shirts.
- Plain Navy Uniform Cardigan sweater and the Navy Uniform Sweatshirt are the only permissible outwear over school uniforms while indoors. Sweaters made from sweatshirt material, windbreakers or hoodies are not considered acceptable on outerwear. Sweater decorations such as ribbons, large buttons, embroidery or laces are not acceptable. Coats for outside play are not included in the uniform policy.
- If your child is cold during winter months they may layer their clothing. However, no shirts or long underwear may be visible outside of the uniform. Long sleeve shirts may not be worn under short-sleeved shirts and turtlenecks are not permitted.
PANTS, SHORTS, SKIRTS AND BELTS
- No cargo pants or cargo shorts (no outside pockets on the legs), no yoga pants, no sweatpants, no denim, no pull on pants.
- A belt is not a requirement, but if a belt is worn it must be black. Blue, colored or decorative plastic belts are not permitted.
- Jumpers and skirts must be long enough to come to or past your child’s fingertips when their arms are at their sides.
SHOES, SOCKS and TIGHTS
- Shoes must be closed toe black (Athletic shoes are recommended. They are preferred for PE classes as well.)
- In the event of snowy or icy weather your child may choose to wear boots to school. If the boots are black they may be worn during the school day. If they are another color students are expected to change into their regular uniform shoes when they arrive.
Following these hints should ensure that your child is dressed for success and will help our school to promote Productive, Positive and Peaceful atmosphere! Please remember to label all clothes with your child’s name and contact your child’s teacher if you have questions about acceptable uniform dress. Thank you again for your cooperation.
