It is sometimes necessary to dismiss school early because of bad weather. Each student and his parents should have an understanding about where he will go in that event, if there is no one home at the time of his arrival. The absence of any announcement means that school will dismiss as usual. All teachers will find out where pupils are to go in the event of an emergency school closing of any nature. Your student will bring a “Remind 101” invitation from school. To join Remind 101, send @a46c99 to 81010. We will make special announcements via brief text messages, to all parents who join or check on our school’s website.
Each parent is asked to complete an Emergency School Closing Form at the beginning of each year. It is occasionally necessary to close school early due to inclement weather, lack of heat, etc. In the event of such a closing, the school cannot call parents to inform them of the emergency. Children should know ahead of time where they are to go and what they should do in the event of an early closing.
In the event of a national, state or local emergency the schools may be on a Code Blue status, meaning the building will be secured and no one will be permitted to leave or enter the building until we are instructed by Prince George’s County Public School System. Once authorization has been granted, students will be released only to those persons listed on the student information or emergency forms.
If there is a school-based (i.e. power outage, gas leak, etc.) emergency that requires staff and students to leave the premises, the students will be transported to Suitland High School and released to those persons listed on the student information and/or emergency form.
