Principal's Welcome Letter

August 8, 2024

Greetings Kenilworth Elementary Cougars!

Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! I am honored to continue to serve and support the Kenilworth family and school community another year. We hope that you have had an enjoyable and memorable summer with your families and friends. However we have missed you in the building and look forward to seeing you on Monday, August 26th, the first official day of school.

We will continue to focus on an inclusive student-centered environment, emphasizing rigorous intentional instruction, preparing our scholars to be college and career ready while continuing our work on building stronger relationships as a community. We are committed to creating an academic experience for our scholars that is positive, challenging, rewarding and addresses their social and emotional well-being and growth while closing the achievement gap.

Our culture and climate guide everything that we do. We want our parents involved in the work. We will host quarterly “Chat and Chews” so that we can hear your voices. We are in this work together, it takes a village. We are excited about the new school year and the possibilities that it brings. Remember, “This is Us” Uniquely created, Kenilworth shaped, a place where everyone fits!

To ensure the success of our scholars, we encourage you to continue to partner with us. Throughout the year, we will keep you informed of all activities, programs and upcoming events and dates via the KES website, School Messenger, Class Dojo school stories and class updates, text alerts, emails, telephone calls, and notices carried by your scholar.

A safe and orderly environment is our priority. Each child has a right to the best education possible. We achieve this by setting behavioral expectations and adhering to the Students Rights and Responsibility Handbook. Additionally, PGCPS has created a Code of Conduct for Families, Volunteers and Visitors. Please review each to ensure that we can maintain a safe and orderly environment for all. Please be reminded that during the school day, scholars must have their cell phones turned off. Please note the Cell Phone Policy. If a scholar needs to call home, they must use the designated school phone.

School breakfast and lunch are available for students everyday. Prices for the 2024-25 school year are as follows : Breakfast $1.60; Lunch $2.75. You may place money on your child's lunch account at MySchoolBucks. A lunch application must be completed to determine eligibility for free or reduced lunch. If you would like to apply, applications can be completed online at MySchoolApps.com.

We ask that you join our PTA and the dynamic Officers that support our school community. We encourage our parents, staff, and students to join. Please join by clicking KES PTA Membership.

Our new school hours are 7:30 am - 1:40 pm. Scholars are not supervised prior to 7:15 am. Please be mindful that no student should arrive to school prior to 7:15 am. Please review the arrival procedures to ensure a safe and orderly arrival for our scholars.

Kindergarten and new scholar orientation will be Friday, August 23, 2024 from 7:30-9:30 am. For our returning scholars we will host “Sneak a Peek'' from 10:00 – 11:00 am. Mark your calendar and save the date Back-to-School Night will be Thursday, September 5th @ 5:30 pm. Once again, the first day of school is Monday August 26th.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your scholar’s academic success.
