Greenbelt Elementary School uses the Talented & Gifted in the Regular Classroom (TRC) model to service TAG identified students in grades 2nd thru 5th. Our TAG Program aims to meet the following objectives:
Greenbelt Elementary follows the PGCPS screening and identification procedures. Each school year, all students will participate in an universal screening process for Gifted and Talented identification in grade 1, 2 and 4. New students to the district in grades 3 and 5 will also be screened. The test data is valid for 2 years. TAG identification is a multiple criteria process including cognitive ability test data, achievement data, teacher checklist of gifted characteristics and report card grades.
In 2019, Greenbelt Elementary earned the Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education (EGATE) designation. EGATE is an awards program that recognizes PreK thru 12th Grade Maryland Public Schools which have Gifted and Talented education programs that are aligned with Maryland’s Criteria for Excellence: Gifted and Talented Program Guidelines.
