Greetings Mighty Tigers,
I hope that you and your families are enjoying the summer. Can you believe school will be starting soon?!! The countdown to our first day of school, Monday, August 28th has begun! The start of a new school year is always a very exciting time! One that’s filled with new beginnings, new friendships, and new opportunities for learning. We are excited to welcome our school community back to a new school year, filled with quality teaching and learning for all of our students.
First, the answer to the question everyone is asking. When will we know who my child’s teacher will be? Classroom teacher assignments will be available in the Parent Portal on Monday, August 21st. Please make sure that your address and phone numbers are up to date in the Parent Portal. To access the PGCPS SchoolMax Family Portal click here.
As your principal, my philosophy is plain and simple; it is all about the children.
I believe that a principal has to be accessible, and therefore, I maintain an accessible presence for our parents, children, and teachers.
I believe that parent involvement is not only important; it is essential to the success of our school.
I believe in celebrating diversity to ensure that everyone knows they are valued as a member of our school community.
I believe that our school family will continue to learn together and grow together. We are partners in your child’s success.
I believe when schools, parents and children work together, the impossible becomes possible.
I’m dreaming of this school year to come; the best is yet to be…
at Glenarden Woods, “Where Dreams Come True”!
Stay safe and be well.
All the best,
Brian Baudoin
Principal

GWES is not a uniform school!!!
Visit our School Supply Lists page for a list of school supplies for each grade level.
Elementary school students are not required to have clear backpacks.
Please review the Car Rider Procedures below and view the map to help you understand the flow of traffic. Map of Car Rider Line
If you are new to GWES and are planning to be a car rider, please email Amanda.Soto@pgcps.org to request a car rider tag. Car rider tags must be visible at pick up and are not needed at drop off in the morning.
The safety of our students during arrival and dismissal is of utmost importance. In an effort to maintain a safe arrival and dismissal process, the following procedures will be implemented for morning drop off and afternoon pick up during the school year. If your child will arrive at school by car and/or go home in a car every day, please review the procedures below.
Car Rider: A car rider is a student who is dropped off in the car loop each morning and/or is picked up from the car loop in a car every day. GWES facilitates point to point drop off and pick up for car riders via the established car loop.
Walker: A student whose parent parks their car every day, and walks to the school door to pick up their child.
Thank you so much for your cooperation in keeping our children safe! We greatly appreciate it!
All new registrants to Glenarden Woods are coded with a special tag/magnet coding in Synergy so that a bus will be scheduled for a pick up closest to your home address. The Transportation office will be sending information out closer to the start of the school year. If you do not receive a letter, contact them at 301-952-6570.
In addition to communication that is shared by your child’s teacher, GWES is in regular communication with our families, in many and varied ways. The GWES Newsletter is sent out monthly. We will send out more frequent newsletters or other communications as timely information needs to be shared. All important information will also be posted on our school’s website. If you haven’t had the chance to visit our website it contains lots of information about our school and is updated as needed to include the latest information. In addition, we communicate with our families via Twitter @GWES_PGCPS, Class Dojo School Story, Instagram @glenarden_woods_es, and School Messenger.
