Dear GNS Families,

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! I hope you and your family have enjoyed a wonderful, restful, and memorable summer. It feels like just yesterday we were wishing everyone a happy summer break, and now we are eagerly preparing to welcome our Bears back for another exciting year of learning, growth, and success!

At Gladys Noon Spellman Elementary School, we believe our greatest success happens when families and schools work together. Your partnership is invaluable, and we look forward to working alongside you to help every child reach their fullest potential. We encourage you to share your child’s strengths, interests, and needs with us so that we can provide the support they need to thrive. In return, we are committed to keeping you informed about your child’s progress and the many exciting things happening throughout our school community.

As the proud principal of GNS, I remain committed to ensuring that every student receives an educational experience that is engaging, challenging, supportive, and responsive to their individual needs. As both a Title I and Community School, we are fortunate to provide experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom. Last year, our Bears enjoyed educational assemblies, field trips, museum visits, arts experiences, hands-on learning opportunities, and school-wide activities that encouraged curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and a love of learning. And we are just getting started! We look forward to creating even more meaningful learning experiences and lasting memories this year.

School Supplies & Uniforms

To make the transition back to school a little easier, GNS will once again provide basic classroom school supplies for all students. Families only need to provide a bookbag if their child would like one. Teachers always appreciate donations of tissues and wipes for their classrooms.

As a reminder, GNS is a uniform school. Students should wear dark blue pants, shorts, skirts, or skorts with a dark blue, light blue, or yellow collared shirt. Students may also wear dark blue, light blue, or yellow sweaters or hoodless sweatshirts. As we transition from white uniform shirts to yellow, students will not be penalized for wearing white shirts they already own and can still fit. When purchasing new shirts, families are encouraged to select yellow, light blue, or dark blue. Please label sweaters, sweatshirts, coats, and jackets with your child’s name. If your family needs assistance obtaining uniforms, please contact us. We are here to help.

Staying Connected

Strong communication between home and school continues to be one of our top priorities. ClassDojo will remain our primary communication platform, and we ask every family to join their child’s classroom once teachers send invitations. Teachers will also provide monthly newsletters with information about classroom learning, important reminders, and upcoming events.

Most importantly, we want to hear from you. Throughout the year, you will receive surveys and other opportunities to provide feedback. Your voice matters, and your input helps us continue to grow, improve, and better meet the needs of our students and families.

Important Dates

Friday, August 21 — School-Wide Meet & Greet | 1:00–4:00 p.m.
Join us for an afternoon of fun! Meet your child’s teacher, explore the classroom, and enjoy outdoor activities and games for the whole family.

Monday, August 24 — Pre-K & Kindergarten Orientation

• Pre-K: 9:00–10:00 a.m.
• Kindergarten: 10:30–11:30 a.m.
• This day is specifically for our Pre-K and Kindergarten students and families.

Tuesday, August 25 — First Day of School! 🐻

• Doors Open: 9:00 a.m.
• Instruction Begins: 9:30 a.m.
• Dismissal: 3:45 p.m.

Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria this year. Please do not drop students off before 9:00 a.m., as supervision is limited before that time. If your child rides the bus, please arrive at the bus stop early. Instruction begins promptly at 9:30 a.m., so we ask that every Bear arrive on time and ready to learn each day.

Thursday, September 17 — Back-to-School Night | 5:30–7:30 p.m.

We are incredibly excited to welcome our students back and begin another amazing year together. Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education and for continuing to partner with us. Together, we can make the 2026–2027 school year our best year yet!

Estimadas familias de GNS:

¡Bienvenidos al año escolar 2026–2027! Espero que ustedes y sus familias hayan disfrutado de un verano maravilloso, relajante y lleno de buenos recuerdos. Parece que fue ayer cuando les deseábamos unas felices vacaciones de verano, ¡y ahora nos estamos preparando con entusiasmo para darles nuevamente la bienvenida a nuestros Bears para otro año de aprendizaje, crecimiento y éxito!

En Gladys Noon Spellman Elementary School, creemos que alcanzamos nuestro mayor éxito cuando las familias y la escuela trabajan juntas. Su colaboración es invaluable y esperamos trabajar junto a ustedes para ayudar a que cada niño alcance su máximo potencial. Los animamos a compartir con nosotros las fortalezas, los intereses y las necesidades de sus hijos para que podamos brindarles el apoyo que necesitan para prosperar. A cambio, nos comprometemos a mantenerlos informados sobre el progreso de sus hijos y las muchas actividades emocionantes que ocurren en nuestra comunidad escolar.

Útiles Escolares y Uniformes

Para facilitar el regreso a clases, GNS nuevamente proporcionará los útiles escolares básicos para todos los estudiantes. Las familias solo necesitan proporcionar una mochila si su hijo desea tener una. Los maestros siempre agradecen las donaciones de pañuelos desechables y toallitas húmedas para sus salones.

Como recordatorio, GNS es una escuela que requiere uniforme. Los estudiantes deben usar pantalones, pantalones cortos, faldas o faldas-pantalón de color azul oscuro con una camisa con cuello de color azul oscuro, azul claro o amarillo. También pueden usar suéteres o sudaderas sin capucha de estos colores. Mantengámonos Conectados

La comunicación sólida entre el hogar y la escuela continúa siendo una de nuestras principales prioridades. ClassDojo seguirá siendo nuestra principal plataforma de comunicación, y les pedimos a todas las familias que se unan al salón de clases de sus hijos cuando reciban la invitación del maestro. Este año, el desayuno se servirá en la cafetería. Por favor, no dejen a los estudiantes antes de las 9:00 a.m., ya que la supervisión es limitada antes de esa hora. Si su hijo viaja en autobús escolar, asegúrese de llegar temprano a la parada.
