Middle school is usually the first time that scholars will have a voice in the school academic community. The Student Government Association at GJGMS serves as an organization that promotes, develops, and nurture leadership skills among scholar. SGA gives students and opportunity to learn about leadership and being a leader. All scholar members who participate in Student government will also learn how to research, plan, organize, and execute programs and activities for a large number of students. The student government advisor leads student government members in developing their leadership skills.
Each advisor will oversee one committee in SGA and work directly with that committee and the committee chair to plan programs and facilitate committee meetings. The Chair and Co-Chair will work with the executive committee. Each advisor will also strive to motivate, teach and model leadership and success of the scholars in the organization. This is evident by advisors attending all required meetings and following through with all expectations and sharing of responsibility.
GJGMS SGA will meet weekly for one hour after school. Some meetings will be full body meetings and others will be just for leadership. The first and third meetings of the month will serve as committee meetings for all of the representatives to meet with their perspective committees to plan programs and discuss committee business. The committee meetings will be led by the committee chair. The president, vice president, and secretary will serve on the executive committee. The second and fourth meetings of the month will serve as full body meetings to be led by the president to discuss, vote, and discuss initiatives. Each meeting will begin at 4:30 PM promptly and end at 5:30 PM.
President: The SGA president will lead all of the meetings; give assistance, guidance, and praise. Furthermore, this scholar will serve as a facilitator during discussions. The president will meet and maintain frequent contact with staff and administration and attend meetings with the advisors to discuss SGA initiatives and programs. The president will also attend and participate in all SGA sponsored programs and events. The President will be elected by the student body and must be an 8th Grader.
Vice President: The SGA vice president will work closely with the president and assume duties of the president when necessary. The vice president will work with the president to prepare meeting agendas and will also meet with advisors to plan and discuss SGA meetings. The vice president is expected to attend all meetings and be an active participant in all SGA programs and initiatives. The Vice President will be elected by the student body, must be a Seventh Grader.
Secretary: The SGA secretary will keep an account of the minutes of every meeting. Moreover, they will be in charge of attendance and maintain student council files. The secretary will keep all financial expenses and provide financial advice to the SGA. The Secretary will be elected by the student body and open to both 7th and 8th grade.
Chief of Staff: The SGA Chief of Staff will oversee all of the cabinet secretaries and ensure that all members of the SGA are doing their job. They will work with staff, administration, and advisors to ensure that all representatives are held accountable when they not in compliance with policy. The Chief of Staff will be elected by the student body and open to both 7th and 8th grade.
House Representative: The House Representative for each house works as an advisor for the house and promote SGA activities. They will serve as the chair of their house committee in the SGA and will be the lead liaison between their house staff and the SGA. Each house will be responsible for selecting their house representative.
Class Representatives: This position is open for anyone to run for. Each homeroom will be responsible for selecting their class representative. The major role of this position is for the Representatives for each class to get their class involved with the SGA and to have a voice. This person will help with programming such as promoting spirit days, and informing them of important events, etc. The class representative will represent their homeroom class in SGA, will serve on SGA committees, and be a member of their house SGA committee. Each homeroom will be responsible for selecting their representative.

This committee will oversee all of the operations of all committees. The members of this committee are elected by the entire scholar population and they will work as a cohesive administrative unit to make sure SGA is an effective organization that is meeting their goals.
SGA Development Committee
Chair of Committee is elected by the committee and will be titled the SGA Secretary of Development

This committee will plan and coordinate SGA fundraisers, fundraising and SGA special initiatives. This committee will also plan the end of the year SGA trip and Members of committee are referred to as trustees.
SGA Public Relations Committee
Chair of Committee is to be elected by the committee and will be titled the SGA Secretary of Communication. The chair will appoint a co-chair and will become a member of the Presidents Executive Committee.

Members of this committee will be called junior publicists. This committee will be responsible for all program advertisements, publicity, and guest relationships during the academic term. This committee will put up and take down all publicity for programs and events make sure that all guests are greeted and given thank you cards for service. Also, this committee will be responsible for making sure that the school community feels positive and united with their SGA organization.
SGA Programming Committee
Chair of the Committee is to be elected by the committee and will be titled the SGA Secretary of Programs. The chair will appoint a co-chair and will become a member of the Presidents Executive Committee.

Members of this committee will be called planners. This committee will be responsible for all program and event planning, coordination, and logistics during the academic year.
All SGA members must comply with the following guidelines to maintain membership:
Must have an overall grade average of 80% or above.
No out of school suspensions or PS74 referrals.
Must attend all required meetings.
Discipline Policy: Ay SGA member that receives school within a school, detention, bus, and any other in school suspension will be placed on probation for the first offense. After the second offense, they will be removed from the organization. Any OSS or PS74 will result in automatic separation from the organization.
Academic Policy: Any SGA member whose grade point average falls below 80% will be placed on probation. After grades come up to standard, they will be removed from probation. If the grade fails to come up after a probation term the member will be separated from the organization.
Attendance Policy: SGA members are expected to attend all meetings requesting their attendance. All members are allowed to miss one meeting with advance notice provided in writing to the Chief of Staff. After the second missed meeting or first missed meeting with approval will result in probation. Any meetings missed once on probation will result in separation with the organization.
Probation: Members on probation are expected to attend all meetings. They will assume their normal roles and responsibilities during meetings. Members on probation will not be allowed to participate in any SGA special initiates or organization trips during their term on probation.
