Dear Edward M. Felegy Elementary School Community:
It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce myself to you as the new principal of Edward M. Felegy Elementary School. I am deeply honored and humbled to be able to serve the students, staff, and families of the school. I am confident that we will continue to provide a high-quality educational program for all students. This appointment is a homecoming for me as I am a resident of the county, and began my teaching career in Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS).
As we begin this journey together, I think it is important for you to know about my personal and professional background. I was born and raised in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I received my bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the University of the Virgin Islands. After college, I relocated to the Washington, DC area to pursue graduate studies earning master’s degrees from Howard University (educational psychology) and Bowie State University, and a doctorate degree in education from the University of Maryland. I began my teaching career in PGCPS as a social studies/Spanish teacher at Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro. Later, I transferred to Montgomery County Public Schools where I served in the following roles: high school social studies/special education teacher, elementary special education resource teacher, pupil personnel worker, instructional specialist, and for the past 3 years as assistant principal of South Lake Elementary School in Gaithersburg. In addition, I am a national board certified teacher in special education, and bilingual
Prior to the close of the school year, I had the opportunity to meet with the staff, PTA leaders, and elected leaders. Prior to the start of this school year, teachers met for one week to plan for instruction. It was a privilege to meet with the parent community during our Open House to continue the tradition of academic excellence. Together, we also will strive to reach new heights academically and continue to develop socially responsible citizens prepared to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
As we begin the school year, and look forward to meeting you and hearing from you firsthand regarding your ideas for how we can grow and build upon the great tradition of Edward M. Felegy Elementary School. please feel free to stop by the school and speak with me. Again, I am honored to return to PGCPS to serve the Edward M. Felegy Elementary School community. Have a wonderful school year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Trevor A. Liburd
Principal
