Attendance: In School - Every Class, Every Day

attendance

School attendance remains a priority for Prince George’s County Public Schools and our goal is for every student to attend school every day and on time. When students show up consistently, they are more likely to achieve better academic outcomes, build stronger relationships, and develop essential skills for the future.

Tips for Parents to Support Great Attendance

  • Set a Consistent Routine: Make sure your child has a regular bedtime and a morning routine that allows for plenty of time to get ready and get to school on time.

  • Keep Communication Open: If your child is going to be absent, communicate with the school as soon as possible. Staying in touch helps everyone stay informed and ensures your child can catch up on missed work.

  • Be Supportive: If your child is struggling with school, whether academically or socially, it can sometimes lead to avoidance or reluctance to attend. Reach out to teachers or school counselors for support.

  • Celebrate Successes: Recognize and celebrate your child’s good attendance! Positive reinforcement goes a long way in motivating students to stay committed to showing up each day.

How to Communicate with the School

  • First, read the Prince George’s County Public Schools Attendance Administrative Procedure (AP 5113).
  • Talk to teachers if you notice sudden changes in behavior.

  • Make sure teachers and school staff have your up-to-date contact information via ParentVue

  • Ask for help from school officials, afterschool programs, other parents or community agencies if you’re having trouble getting your child to school.
