Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) offers school psychology internships at both the doctoral and specialist levels through the Office of Psychological Services.
Our school psychology internship program has supported interns from across the United States. We follow the National Association of School Psychologist (NASP) Standards for Training and Field Placement Programs in School Psychology and support the NASP Model for Comprehensive and Integrated School Psychological Services.
Our program includes at least 1200 hours for specialist level interns and 1500 hours for doctoral level interns over the course of the academic school year. Interns requiring additional hours (i.e., 1750) can begin or extend their internship into the summer months. Interns are typically assigned two supervisors, and accommodations are made for interns attending APA-accredited programs or other doctoral programs that require supervision by a licensed psychologist.
Our interns engage in a wide range of experiences, including administering assessments, individual and group counseling, participation in school meetings, consultation with educators and parents, completing FBAs and BIPs, providing support during crisis events, committee involvement, and opportunities to collaborate with school psychologists on systems-level initiatives. Our interns also enhance their training experiences with specialty rotations and regular professional development opportunities.
Specialty Rotations: Interns select two to three specialty rotations, which have previously included autism, early childhood, neuropsychology, community-based classrooms, and emotional disabilities. Interns with relevant background experience may also consider rotations in bilingual assessment and Deaf and Hard of Hearing assessment.
Professional Development: The PGCPS Office of Psychological Services is a NASP-Approved provider of professional development. Opportunities for professional development are available during our monthly staff meetings when invited speakers present on a broad range of topics. Interns also attend monthly meetings with the early career psychologists during which best practices and other relevant topics are discussed.
Bilingual intern candidates are encouraged to apply and Bilingual School Psychologist supervisors are available. All selected school psychology interns are compensated over the course of their contract with the school system. Upon successful completion of the internship, we welcome an intern’s application for employment with PGCPS.
The Office of Psychological Services is currently accepting applications for internships that will take place during the 2025-2026 school year. Application packets will be accepted between the months of September and November. Interviews will be conducted during the month of December.
