Information Technology

Overview

The Information Technology Program prepares students to meet the demands of the 21st century with a rigorous academic curriculum, while exposing them to the varied career paths and opportunities available in the Information Technology (IT) Computer Information Systems industry. Students are provided concentrated coursework in networking, computer science, web design, and interactive media production, which prepares students for post-secondary training and/or a career path in the information technology field.

Requirements to Enroll and Complete Program: Be in good academic standing with an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Computer Information Systems

(4-year pathway)

The Information Technology (IT) Computer Information Systems Program is a 4-Year MSDE Approved Completer Program of Study that prepares students to meet the demands of the 21st century with a rigorous academic curriculum, while exposing them to the varied career paths and opportunities available in the Information Technology (IT) Computer Information Systems industry. Students are provided concentrated coursework in JAVA, Python, AP Courses, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Software Engineering that will prepare them for post-secondary training and/or a career path in the Information Technology (IT) Computer Information Systems field.

Oracle Academy Pathway

(4-year pathway)Oracle Academy is changing the world, advancing computing education globally to drive knowledge, innovation, skills development, and diversity in technology fields. ... Through this partnership, Oracle Academy helps students develop key programming skills for college and career readiness. The Oracle Academy is a 4-Year MSDE Approved Completer Program of Study that prepares students to meet the demands of the 21st century with a rigorous academic curriculum, while exposing them to the varied career paths and opportunities available in the Information Technology (IT) Computer Science industry. Students are provided concentrated coursework in JAVA, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Software Engineering that will prepare them for post-secondary training and/or a career path in the Information Technology (IT) Computer Science field.

Networking (CISCO Academy - Cybersecurity)

(2-year pathway)

The IT Networking Cisco Academy is a nationally recognized program that prepares students for successful careers in information technology fields such as computer network design and administration, hardware, software, and network installation, local and wide-area network (LAN/WAN) management and systems engineering.  The IT Networking Cisco Academy) prepares high school students with the professional skills they require to pursue quality academic and professional opportunities. Particular emphasis is given to using decision-making and problem-solving techniques in the application of science, mathematics, communication and social studies concepts to solve networking problems.

Academy courses are designed with the option of an applied approach or a more theoretical approach to learning IT networking.  The course sequence is a hands-on, applied technology approach to Cisco and CompTIA certifications. As a result of participation in this program, students can earn industry certifications that are the first steps toward a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification, or to more advanced certifications in CCNA Voice, Cloud, Wireless, or Security. Recommended World Languages: Arabic, Chinese, or Russian.

Integrating Technology, Engineering and Computer Science (InTECS) Pathway

(3-year pathway)

The Integrating Technology, Engineering and Computer Science (InTECS) program is a comprehensive high school plan that will engage students in core concepts of technical literacy, critical thinking, and computational thinking. Students will explore how computer science, engineering and technology education can be blended in order to show how the three concentrations/concepts work together. This program will promote ingenuity, innovation and skills to highlight components and concepts enhancing secondary and post-secondary education.

Mobile Applications and Software Development - Apple Pathway

(3-year pathway)

The Mobile Applications and Software Development Program introduces students to the Swift programming language, which is used to develop apps for macOS, iOS, watchOS, tvOS, and other devices. The program also provides students with hands-on experience in the rapidly growing field of mobile app development and software engineering. This is a valuable program for students who are interested in a career in technology. As technological advances continue to accelerate and handheld devices become more ubiquitous, the demand for skilled app developers will only increase. The MASDP will prepare students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in this growing field.

TalentReady

(4-year pathway)

Prince George’s TalentReady Early Middle College Program, is an early college partnership with Prince George’s Community College, Employ Prince George’s, Inc., four-year colleges and employer partners. It is designed to expand student access to college, prepare students for careers in information technology, and meet the growing demand for local IT talent in the nation’s capital. The program prepares students for one of four high school to career paths: Software DevelopmentNetworkingData Management, and Cybersecurity.
