Master Plan Support Project

Overview

The Master Plan Support Project (MPSP) was a comprehensive planning initiative conducted by Prince George's County Public Schools to establish a data-driven approach for prioritizing future school construction and modernization projects across the district.

Completed in 2015, the MPSP evaluated existing school facilities using three key measures:

    • Mission - How well each school supports the educational goals and instructional programs of PGCPS.
    • Condition - The physical condition of each facility, including building systems and infrastructure.
    • Function - How effectively each school meets current educational standards and supports modern teaching and learning.

As part of the study, facility condition data was updated, and consultant teams conducted on-site assessments of schools built prior to 1999. These evaluations examined each school's ability to support evolving instructional needs, including expanded prekindergarten programs, specialty programs, career academies, and inclusive learning environments.

Community engagement played an important role throughout the project. Feedback from public meetings, stakeholder discussions, and written comments helped inform the final recommendations.

The completed MPSP provided the foundation for future capital planning efforts and informed the development of subsequent Educational Facilities Master Plans (EFMPs) and Capital Improvement Programs (CIPs), helping guide long-term investments in Prince George's County Public Schools.

Project Reports

The Master Plan Support Project produced a series of reports documenting the evaluation process, findings, and recommendations. These reports remain available for reference and provide historical context for the district's long-range facilities planning.
