Chair Dr. Juanita Miller Biography

Dr. Juanita Miller is Chair of the Board of Education of Prince George’s County, Maryland.  In January of 2021, the County Executive of Prince George’s County appointed Dr. Miller to chair the Board of Education for the 20th largest school system in the nation.  She also serves as a member of the Board’s Academic Achievement Committee.

Dr. Miller served as Delegate to the Maryland General Assembly where she represented the 25th Legislative District of Prince George’s County.  During her term, she served as Chair of the Prince George’s County Affairs Committee, Chair of the Women’s Caucus Legislative Committee and Chair of the Black Caucus’ Business Roundtable Conference.  She also was elected as the first representative from Prince George’s County to the National Democratic Committee.

Active as a community leader, Dr. Miller has served on the executive committees of various civic and community associations which includes the Prince Georges NAACP, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the South County Democratic Club and Top Ladies of Distinction Legislative Committee to name a few.  She was previously appointed by the County Council to serve on the Revenue Authority Board.  Dr. Miller was appointed to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) where she served as Chair (the first African American female to hold that position).

Her priorities as a community activist include the founding of Miller’s Mentees which provided leadership training for young women, promoting and advocating for a quality education system, health care awareness and quality economic development and smart growth.

She is a prolific writer with great communication and interpersonal skills.  Dr. Miller has received numerous awards and recognition for her community service. Her achievements have been documented in the Women of Achievement publication.

Dr. Miller is a graduate of DC Teachers College, with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Education. In addition, she received a Masters in Special Education and a Doctorate in Leadership and Policy Management from The George Washington University.  She also engaged in post graduate studies at Harvard University’s School of Government and Policy.
