Greenbelt Middle School Is the New Science Bowl Champion

A measure of the talent at Science Bowl's Middle School championships could be read in the number of the 90 questions asked that were answered incorrectly: just 2!    

Starting with 16 middle schools back in September, the Final Four at the Bonnie Johns Media Center's television studio were Accokeek, Kettering, Greenbelt, and Robert Goddard.  After two semifinal games, the 2 finalists emerging to vie for the championship, were two former champs, Greenbelt (having won in 2016) and Robert Goddard (winning in 2021).     

After a fiercely fought game, noted for both its near perfection and great sportsmanship, Greenbelt's team was awarded individual gold medals for their well-deserved win.  Robert Goddard, also an excellent team and a perennial contender, won silver medals.    

A GENERATIONAL SCIENCE BOWL NOTE: The father of Livia Lu, Greenbelt's team captain, was in the studio to cheer on his daughter and to reveal that he too had been a Science Bowl contestant back in 1989, playing for Dwight D. Eisenhower MS!   Science Bowl is now in its 38th year, having started in 1986.
