“As guidance counselor, Weldina is a "steady heart" of our building. Her work ethic is meticulous, and her commitment is absolute. She has the rare ability to truly see students, offering compassion to those who need it most. Despite facing personal health challenges that might have caused others to step back, she remains undaunted. Within these walls, Weldina is more than a counselor; she is a pillar, an advocate, and a Queen.”

Amy Dunham | Physical Ed Teacher, Laurel ES

“Amy is a dedicated teacher who consistently goes above and beyond what is asked. She is a natural leader and is always willing to help. Amy works hard at bringing special programs to our school and often involves people from the surrounding community. Amy is well liked by our students, staff, and anyone with whom she comes into contact. She takes her job very seriously and cares deeply for our students. She is a pleasure to work with!”

Deirdra Mapp | Classroom Teacher, International HS-Largo

“Deidra is the English Department Chair, Community School Education Liaison, P.B.I.S. Coordinator, Co-Sponsor of the Senior Class, the Community School Education Liaison, the chair of the Secondary Interest section of the Maryland TESOL board and the Yearbook Coordinator all while teaching a full load of classes. She ensures families receive workshops on their rights as immigrants through a partnership with the George Washington University Law School. She makes a point to be open, helpful and collaborative with her colleagues and seeks opportunities to help us grow and develop.

Dr. Saira White | Classroom Teacher, Parkdale HS

“Dr. Saira White has been a math teacher at our school for more than a decade and recently earned her doctorate in Educational Administration with honors, demonstrating her strong commitment to professional growth. Dr. White is especially supportive of immigrant students, consistently showing empathy and providing emotional and social support to those who need it most. In addition, she actively supports students through Saturday classes and is always willing to help her colleagues. Her kindness, work ethic, and dedication make a lasting impact on our school community, and students deeply appreciate her support.

Latoya Middleton | Student Advocate, Walker Mill MS

“Latoya continues to provide support for students with programming and activities that help students see the connections between their choices and the outcomes. She has implemented Student of the Week & Month, recognizing students with posted photos, certificates, & a fast pass through the lunch line. She also plans & organizes 7th grade day, where each classroom takes on an activity where students rotate throughout the day, which ends on snacks for all. Her commitment to the students at Walker Mill is invaluable and we are the better for having her as a part of the WMMS family.

Stephanny Powell | Classroom Teacher, Melwood ES

“Stephanny Powell has been a passionate life long advocate and educator for over three decades. She has been advocating for our students especially from low income families. She had two of her students who recently won First and Second place in the 2025 PGCEA Foundation and Minority Affair Committee (MAC) annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Essay and Art Competition. Stephanny has continued to make a difference in the lives of her students, colleagues, educators, our schools, and communities.”
