Understanding Grading and Reporting: A Guide for Parents

The Division of Academics supports full transparency in student grading and reporting.

What Is Grading and Reporting?

Grading and reporting is how teachers measure and communicate your student's progress in school. It includes the grades your student receives on assignments, tests, and projects, as well as feedback about their learning. These grades and reports help you understand how well your student is doing in each subject.

Why Does It Matter?

Grading and reporting systems provide important information about:

  • The progress your student (s) is making with the material being taught
  • Areas where your student (s) may need additional support or practice

*Please note the following guidelines regarding the review of graded assessments:

  • Teacher-Generated Work: Quizzes and tests created by teachers can be returned to families for review and study.
  • Secure Online Assessments: Due to proprietary testing security, assessments administered through secure district platforms cannot be printed or sent home.
  • Requesting a Review: Families wishing to view their student's responses or understand their score in accordance with standards on secure assessments may schedule an in-person appointment with the school. During this meeting, a staff member will provide access to the student's results within the secure platform.

Tips To Support Students at Home

Review grades and feedback. Check your student's grades regularly through the school's online system. Read teacher comments to understand what your student is doing well and where they might need support.
