The PGCPS Department of Curriculum and Instruction concluded its tutoring programs for the 2022-2023 school year. All programs offered a student to PGCPS teacher ratio of 4-to-1 for each virtual tutoring program. Student participants remained virtual due to the lack of bus transportation after school hours. Reading/English Language Arts (RELA) Programs: Grades 4-12
Elementary School
The Voyager Passport® after-school tutoring program for grades 4-5 concluded on March 27, 2023, at the 62 elementary schools and/or academies that elected to participate for the 2022-2023 school year. Each school established their tutoring schedule for participating students and provided the Zoom links for each tutoring session. The Voyager Passport® after-school tutoring program was an 18-week project with one group of students. Tutoring was held virtually, three days a week for two hours each day. Schools determined which three days and hours to implement tutoring.

High School
This virtual after-school tutoring program for Grade 10 concluded at the 7 high school sites for the 2022-2023 school year on May 6, 2023. This program was implemented on a smaller scale than the 2021-2022 school year because PGCPS teachers (tutors) were offered multiple competing opportunities for second assignments. Students utilized the Achieve 3000 program and No Red Ink, and teachers facilitated small group lessons that guided students through the required weekly activities to impact reading and writing outcomes. Each cohort was eight weeks and tutoring was held virtually, three days per week Monday through Thursday for two hours each day. Students and families selected their designated days and times.

Social Studies Programs
Middle School
The Close-Up Foundation of Washington offered PGCPS students, at 35 schools, a program that will improve their civic efficacy, knowledge of local, state, and national issues and develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills by applying content knowledge to a series of constructed responses and a final speech on a chosen issue impacting Maryland. There was only one cohort implemented for the 2022-2023 school year from October 12, 2022 to December 8, 2022; it served 362 students. This program was carried out online after school two times per week on either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. or 6:45-7:45 p.m. Students and families selected their designated days and times and remained in that cohort for the duration of the program.
Legislative Reports
For the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years, PGCPS was required to provide a report on its tutoring programs to the Accountability and Implementation Board (AIB) and the Legislative Policy Committee of the General Assembly.
Below, there is a report for each required school year that includes the following:
(1) how many students PGCPS served through the program by grade and the subject areas in which tutoring was provided; (2) the method PGCPS used to identify students for tutoring; (3) the budget and expenditures for the program; (4) the models of tutoring provided to students, including pupil-to-tutor ratio or group size, the frequency of sessions, the amount of time per session, and the number of sessions; and (5) data on student outcomes, disaggregated by the type of model used to provide the tutoring and by race, ethnicity, gender, disability status, English language learner status and socioeconomic status.
