Prekindergarten Expansion

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) continues to offer support to the PGCPS Early Learning Office as the schools in the chart below go through the Maryland Accreditation/EXCELS process. Each school must commit to continuous quality improvement to benefit children, families and staff. Four schools (Arrowhead Elementary, James R. Randall Early Childhood Center, Judge S. Woods Elementary and Woodmore Elementary) will resume this process in the 2023-2024 school year.

Schools Currently in the Maryland Accreditation Process 

*New to the EXCELS/accreditation process

MSDE visited 10 schools in May 2023 and eight schools in June 2023. As a result, four schools have completed the accreditation process. 

• May 2023 Visits – Barack Obama Elementary, Catherine T. Reed Elementary, Hyattsville Elementary, John H. Bayne Elementary, Lamont Elementary, Marlton Elementary, Mt. Rainier Elementary, Rockledge Elementary, Samuel P. Massie Academy and Springhill Lake Elementary
• June 2023 Visits – Arrowhead Elementary, Dodge Park Elementary, Gladys Noon Spellman Elementary, Highland Park Elementary, Hillcrest Heights Elementary, Oaklands Elementary, University Park Elementary and Valley View Elementary
  
• Fully Accredited Schools – Thomas S. Stone Elementary and Woodridge Elementary received a Decision 1 – Re-accreditation from MSDE, which means the accreditation application has been awarded as fully accredited for the next three years.
• Completed the Process – Chapel Forge Early Childhood Center and Hollywood Elementary are awaiting a final decision from MSDE.
