To clarify procedures related to the American Red Cross Blood Program (ARCBP) (Bloodmobile), in conjunction with Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS).
According to Section 10-101 of the Health Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland and with the approval of the Prince George’s County Board of Education, students age 17 and above may donate blood at the school sponsored American Red Cross Blood Program. Parental consent is not required for these donations. However, the PGCPS acknowledges the desire of parents/guardians to be notified of the existence of the blood program and the opportunity for minors at least 17 years old to give blood. Therefore, such parental notifications shall be made in writing each year prior to the implementation of the blood program. Principals will determine the most effective means of notifying parents of the ARCBP.
Blood Program means any voluntary and non-compensatory program for the drawing of blood, which is approved and operated by the American Red Cross.
