Notre Dame of Maryland University

Notre Dame of Maryland University Special Education Dual-Certification Program

Resident Teachers in this program will complete pre-service training and graduate-level coursework over the summer to become classroom ready on day one.  Additionally, these Resident Teachers complete rigorous coursework at Notre Dame of Maryland University which will lead to professional dual-certification and/or a Master’s Degree in Education. Participants will receive coaching support from a supervising teacher for the first quarter of the school year followed by high-quality mentoring support for the remainder of the two-year training program. Content areas for this program include:

  • Special Education & Elementary

  • Special Education & Secondary English

  • Special Education & Secondary History

  • Special Education & Secondary Mathematics or 

  • Special Education & Secondary Science (Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Space Sciences, Environmental Science, Physics) 

 

Prince George’s County Resident Teacher Program- Elementary Education

The Prince George’s County Resident Teacher Program (PGCRT- Elementary Education) is a Maryland Alternative Certification Programs that invites professionals interested in changing careers or recent college graduates with degrees in fields other than education, to participate in a fast track route to teaching. The PGCRT - Elementary Program is an intense, accelerated teacher-training program designed to place credentialed, qualified educators in critical teacher shortage areas with a focus in Elementary Education.

The PGCRT - Elementary Education Program is comprised of four program phases: Recruitment, Pre-Employment Training, Internship/Practicum and Residency. Each program phase is sequential and requires satisfactory completion before advancement to the next phase. Candidates must also receive satisfactory ratings in each phase to earn eligibility for a professional teaching license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).
