Who Can Qualify for  Home and Hospital Teaching?

Students are always expected to go to regular school as much as possible. However, your child may qualify for home teaching if they meet the following rules:

General Rules

  • Time Limit: Your child must be expected to miss at least 20 school days in a row due to their documented medical condition.

  • School Help First: The school must try everything it can to help your child inside the school building before home and hospital teaching can be approved.

  • Special Education Rule: Home teaching cannot be used as a temporary placement for students with disabilities who are waiting for a new special education school or placement change.

Medical Proof Needed

You must provide official medical paperwork depending on your child's condition:

  • For Physical Conditions: A licensed physician or a certified nurse practitioner must sign the paperwork.

  • For Emotional or Mental Health Conditions: A licensed psychiatrist, licensed psychologist, or licensed mental health nurse practitioner must sign the paperwork.

Note: For emotional conditions, home teaching can only last for a maximum of 60 days.
