Students are always expected to go to regular school as much as possible. However, your child may qualify for home teaching if they meet the following rules:
Time Limit: Your child must be expected to miss at least 20 school days in a row due to their documented medical condition.
School Help First: The school must try everything it can to help your child inside the school building before home and hospital teaching can be approved.
Special Education Rule: Home teaching cannot be used as a temporary placement for students with disabilities who are waiting for a new special education school or placement change.
You must provide official medical paperwork depending on your child's condition:
For Physical Conditions: A licensed physician or a certified nurse practitioner must sign the paperwork.
For Emotional or Mental Health Conditions: A licensed psychiatrist, licensed psychologist, or licensed mental health nurse practitioner must sign the paperwork.
Note: For emotional conditions, home teaching can only last for a maximum of 60 days.
