What is Home & Hospital Teaching

What it is: Temporary school support (up to 60 calendar days) for Prince George's County Public School students who cannot attend school due to a physical or emotional medical reason.

    • Medical Proof Needed:

      • For physical conditions, a licensed physician or certified nurse practitioner must sign off.

      • For emotional/mental conditions, a licensed psychiatrist, licensed psychologist, or licensed psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner must sign off.

    • Location: Instruction takes place in the student's home, in the hospital, or at a therapeutic center.

    • Materials: The student's regular school provides all books and assignments, so the student does not fall behind.

    • Format: Lessons can be online, face-to-face, or a mix of both, depending on the student's needs and schedule.

    • Teaching Hours: Full-time students get at least 6 hours of instruction, while intermittent students get at least 3 hours. Schedules can be adjusted based on the student's health.

    • Keep in Mind: This is not a direct replacement for a full, standard school day. Additionally, state law requires these teachers to have a bachelor's degree, but they may not be officially certified in the specific subject they are helping with.
