UPPER MARLBORO, MD — State Superintendent of Education Dr. Karen Salmon announced Wednesday that all Maryland public schools will remain closed through Friday, April 24 as part of ongoing efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). CEO Dr. Monica Goldson issued the following statement in response:
“I assure you that in collaboration with the Prince George’s County Board of Education and the Maryland State Department of Education, our Administration is working to fully and thoughtfully address our plan forward in these unprecedented circumstances. We are working to ensure that PGCPS provides every resource possible to support students and families during this time. These unprecedented circumstances continue to evolve and we will continue to prioritize the wellbeing of children, families, employees and our entire community.
“I know there are many questions about the continuity of teaching and learning. We are currently surveying students and families about technology access in preparation for distance learning. My goal is to announce our plan for PGCPS continuity of learning next week.
“Additionally, we are working to address other areas that impact our students and families, including the needs of graduating high school seniors. We will do our best to answer every question and offer additional guidance in the coming days and weeks. In the meantime, we will continue meal service and share enrichment packets and other resources.
“The PGCPS community is at our best when we come together as a village. Let’s come together now to continue supporting our 136,500 students and 22,000 educators, administrators and staff.”
