Prekindergarten and Kindergarten Orientation Day

On Thursday, Aug. 18, prekindergarten and kindergarten students will participate in programs designed to help them adjust to their schools. Parents of new students will receive details from the school. Parents who do not receive information should contact the school to confirm the transition program date.

Middle and High School Transition Day

On Monday, Aug. 22, sixth- and seventh-graders, and first-time ninth graders will attend an all-day program at their schools with breakfast and lunch included. Students who ride buses will be picked up and dropped off at their regular time and bus stop location.

Information about bus stop locations and drop-off and pick-up times can be found at pgcps.org. Administrators will also send a notification letter.

Transition Day allows students to participate in their regular school schedule, attend an information session about available resources for a successful school year, and meet key staff members, student guides, and peers. Information session  topics include:

  • Middle/high school schedules
  • School bus transportation rules
  • School policies
  • Lockers
  • Extracurricular activities
  • Tools for success, such as student handbooks and calendars
  • Strategies for success, including homework and student responsibilities
  • SchoolMax, transcripts, testing, and more
  • Parents with questions about transition days should contact their child’s school.

The first day of school for all students is Tuesday, Aug. 23. Families are encouraged to share their first day of school photos and/or videos on social media using #PGCPS1stDay.
