3D Scholars Open House is Wednesday, December 4th at 6:30 pm Charles H. Flowers High School
Through a groundbreaking partnership, Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) and University of Maryland Global Campus are offering an affordable pathway to a bachelor’s degree for students in Prince George’s County, beginning with dual enrollment in high school.
About the 3D Scholars Program
The 3D Scholars Program application cycle for the school year 2025-26 will open October 1, 2024.
The Prince George's 3D Scholars program is a specialized program through which students earn credits towards an associate's degree while in high school, then immediately transition to Prince George's Community College (PGCC) to complete their associate's degree, and are then awarded a scholarship to University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) to earn their bachelor's degree. Available courses of study: Business Administration, Criminal Justice, and Computer Networks and Cybersecurity. The name "3D" stands for the three degrees earned in the program; high school diploma (PGCPS), associate's degree (PGCPS), bachelor's degree (UMGC). Only 50 seats are available for incoming 9th graders. Qualifying applicants will be screened by the strength of the application packet and final selections via lottery. The 3D Scholars program is located at Charles H. Flowers High School.
Program Highlights
- The program offers three areas of study: Criminal Justice, Computer Network and Cyber Security, and Business Administration
- If students are accepted into the program they will be provided transportation to and from Charles H. Flowers
- The students will start dual enrollment course at the beginning of their Junior year
This program is a partnership with Prince George Community College and University of Maryland Global Campus where students may earn a Bachelor’s degree for a total cost of less than $10,000.
Degree Destinations
Business Administration
In the business administration major, you'll gain a well-rounded education that provides foundational, workplace-relevant management skills, organizational theory, and operational knowledge.
The goal of this major is to develop key managerial competencies – including critical thinking, systems thinking, team building, decision making, and ethical leadership – that you can apply to a variety of management-related careers in almost any type of business, be in for-profit, non-profit or public sector.
Computer Networks and Cybersecurity
In the computer networks and cybersecurity major, you'll learn the operational procedures and technologies to design, implement, administer, secure, and troubleshoot computer networks. The major was designed to combine the benefits of traditional college education with hands-on training in in state-of-the-art systems. The curriculum integrates technical skill, preparation for industry-standard certifications, and a wide range of IT knowledge emphasizing networking and security.
Criminal Justice
In the criminal justice major, you'll learn both the theory and practice of the criminal justice system, as well as the specifics of criminal behavior, law enforcement, courts, corrections, security, and investigation. The curriculum covers the nature of crime and the institutions and processes that prevent and respond to it in a democratic society. Courses are developed and taught by local law enforcement officials, so you'll benefit from their field-tested knowledge and experience.
