Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is the Ombudsman an "advocate" for the parents or the school

As an Ombudsman, Dr. Wilson is an advocate for fairness and equity. While she works closely with families to ensure their voices are heard, her goal is to find a resolution that aligns with policy and the best interests of the student.

Is my conversation with the Ombudsman confidential?

Yes. Communications with the Office of the Ombudsman are kept confidential to the extent permitted by law. This creates a "safe space" to discuss sensitive issues and explore potential solutions without fear of retaliation.

What power does the Ombudsman have?

The Ombudsman does not make binding legal decisions or formally "overturn" policies. Instead, Dr. Wilson uses persuasion, mediation, and systemic review to recommend changes and resolve conflicts. Her influence comes from her ability to look at the "big picture" and advocate for what is just.

Does the Ombudsman handle legal matters?

No. The Office of the Ombudsman is an informal resource. It does not handle matters currently in formal litigation, grievances, or legal proceedings.
