Please find information about the various high school sports seasons below. Sports seasons in the state of Maryland are determined by the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA). In order to participate in any of our athletic programs students must meet eligibility requirements and have a current sports physical. Sports physicals are good for one year. If a sports physical expires during the sports season athletes must complete a new sports physical and upload the new forms into Aktivate for Athletic Director's review and approval before being able to participate in any practices or competitions. Similarly if a grading quarter ends during a sports season or post season MPSSAA tournaments the athlete must still meet the 2.0 GPA requirement.
There are three sports seasons and some yearlong sports which continue through all seasons. Available sports vary by school. Please visit your school's website for specific information or contact the school's Athletic Director. Please be advised that each school and sport may have different conditioning programs and tryout dates. Tryouts and official practices will not start prior to the official season start dates as described below.
The beginning of the sports year starts on the 6th Wednesday following the first Sunday in July and concludes with the Spring Sports season. The exact dates for each year can be found in the MPSSAA Handbook.
The Fall Sports Season runs from the 6th Wednesday following the first Sunday in July to the end of October. The State tournament begins at the conclusion of the regular season. The exact dates for each year can be found in the MPSSAA Handbook.
The Winter Sports season begins November 15th. If November 15th falls on a Sunday the season would start the day before.
