Pillar 3

Outcomes for Pillar 3:

  • Provide students with equitable opportunities to become CCR ready and meet standards at an equal rate
  • Keep students on track to meet CCR standards
  • Provide high-quality career counseling and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs

The focus of Pillar 3 is on college and career readiness which includes mathematics and literacy. PGCPS will also build staff capacity and expertise through career coaches, curriculum, resources, technology-based programs and interventions, and training and professional development from state and national experts.

Instruction is aligned to CCR standards and PGCPS has expanded its offering of post-CCR pathways which include Career and Technical Education (CTE), dual enrollment in college courses, Comprehensive Arts, and other college preparatory options for all eligible students. Students will have opportunities to engage in college courses early and/or rigorous technical education leading to apprenticeships and industry-recognized credentials.

Career Counseling

The AIB in collaboration with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Committee collaborated to create the new career counseling program established by the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. The program is a partnership with the local community college and workforce development board to provide college and career counseling in every PGCPS middle and high school. The three partners in Prince George’s County are Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), Prince George’s Community College (PGCC), and Employ Prince George’s (EPG). The program prepares students to successfully navigate their post-College and Career Readiness (post-CCR) pathways.

  • Explore: Guides students in discovering their strengths, interests, and values to select the right post-CCR pathway.
  • Connect: Bridges the gap between students and employers, enhancing their understanding of real-world career options.
  • Empower: Assists students in creating and advancing a six-year plan to prepare them for their future beyond high school.
