Meet Maribel Brador, Kettering Middle School teacher with 18 years in education!

Q. What is your heritage and what country (or countries) is your family from?
A. I am from the Dominican Republic. My Latin heritage is folklore and food.

Q. What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you personally, and why is it important to celebrate it in the PGCPS community?
A. For me, it is to remember our experiences and transmit our cultures, beliefs and heritage to this generation.

Q. How has your cultural background and heritage shaped your perspective as a leader in education?
A. The influence of respect for our elders and our peers is transmitted so that young people can develop their values, no matter where they are or who they are with.

Q. What advice do you have for those interested in pursuing a career in education, especially those from Latino backgrounds?
A. Teaching from the heart is fulfilling and offers a passion and satisfaction when students learn what you teach. Dreams come true when you work at it!

Q. Can you recommend a book, movie, podcast or other resource that students, parents and educators can explore to learn more about Hispanic heritage and its significance in our society?
A. I recommend the movies Coco, Vivo, Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse, Underwater Dreams, Encanto and Rio.
