Prekindergarten is a preschool program for four-year-old students from families with varying income levels, but targets families with economically disadvantaged backgrounds or who are homeless.
The program is designed to provide students with a variety of learning experiences that address their cognitive, social, emotional and physical needs. The Prekindergarten Program is primarily a boundary-based program, located in elementary schools throughout the county.
Balanced curriculum challenges each child’s development • Child-centered learning environment • Aligned with Maryland College and Career Ready Standards • Stimulating, hands-on activities designed to develop skills, knowledge and behaviors needed for kindergarten • Focus on adult-child interactions delivered in large group, small group, play-based centers, and one-on-one interactions

Children who will be age four by September 1 of the school year Children who demonstrate developmental delays or are at risk for developmental delays as identified by an IEP placement
