Distance Learning Guidance: Creative and Performing Arts (CPA) / Visual and Performing Arts (VPA)

 Highlights

  • In the full virtual learning model, students will meet with their teachers in real-time to receive direct instruction.  They will also have access to pre-recorded and recorded lessons for independent assignments/projects to be completed without teacher assistance.
  • Professional Development will be provided at the Back to School meetings on August 25th and 26th. Instructional support will be ongoing, which will include the presentation of virtual teacher tools, a discussion of Bridging documents, an overview of new curriculum, and ready-to-use lessons and activities.
  • Students and teachers will have access to online resources and textbooks.

Programmatic Support

  • Students will meet with their teachers in real-time to receive direct instruction.  Students will also have access to pre-recorded and recorded lessons in order to revisit or review content.
  • Available resources include Bridging documents, new curriculum, online resources, and a professional mentor.
  • Professional development opportunities for teachers will be ongoing in the form of supervisor office hours, workshops, shared Google Documents, and new teacher/veteran teacher mentorships.
  • Teachers will be encouraged to create introductory presentations (live or recorded) for students and parents in order to establish trust, rapport, and build sound relationships.
  • Each school will host a virtual orientation meeting for parents and students to share schedules, provide information on how to access textbooks and ancillary resources, materials pickup dates, etc.
  • Virtual Exhibits, Performances, and Festivals may take place, however, the focus will be on individualized or small group instruction.

Note:

 Program and Scheduling Considerations

VPA students will maintain their double block schedule.

Students will have a 4-period instructional day.  VPA students will have a 5th period at the end of the regular instructional day.

It is recommended that VPA applied teachers teach a CPA masterclass (sectional or larger group class) one to two times per month.

CPA students will see their major class at least two times per week.

Elementary students (Grades K-5) in the CPA K-8 should have a different Fine Art in their schedule each day.  The block of time should allow for a half hour pullout for instrumental instruction.

Students could be grouped into small groups or breakout rooms to tailor discipline or concept specific instruction during the regular instructional block
